Lenticular La Tene II

This hilt is inspired by a frieze in Pergamum, Turkey illustrated by Connolly in Greece and Rome at War. Hilt materials are water buffalo horn with steel guard plate, grip spacers and pommel cap. The blade is a modified Albion Armorers' La Tène II. I ground the blade into a lenticular form and added more profile taper. Then I etched a wood grain pattern into the blade as seen in Navarro's The Finds from the Site of La Tène. The buffalo horn is primarily dark brown to black with a greenish bronze prismatic undertone that adds depth to the horn.
This sword also included a metal scabbard (the first we have made).
32 1/2" overall
28" blade
