Lenticular La Tène II

HomeAvailable Pieces

This hilt is inspired by a frieze in Pergamum, Turkey illustrated by Connolly in Greece and Rome at War.  Hilt materials are water buffalo horn with steel guard plate, grip spacers and pommel cap.  The blade is a modified Albion Armorers' La Tène II.  I ground the blade into a lenticular form and added more profile taper.  Then I etched a wood grain pattern into the blade as seen in Navarro's The Finds from the Site of La Tène.  The buffalo horn is primarily dark brown to black with a greenish bronze prismatic undertone that adds depth to the horn.  The horn does have some superficial cracks which are for the most part on one side of the hilt (seen in the pictures below).

Recently I finished my first attempt at a metal scabbard which will be included with this sword.
